Overview of the Area
Samseong-dong is home to the media Mecca and shopping center COEX. Short for Convention & Exhibition, this is an ideal place to hold business meetings, community events and galas, as well as large exhibitions and shows due to its ready supply of digital technology. ASEM Hall, where the 3rd Asia-Europe Summit Meeting is to be held, is the only place in the world that supports simultaneous interpretations in eighteen languages. COEX boasts a broad mass of 50 acres, with its convention facility making up its core by encompassing approximately 198,000 sq. m. of the building. Eight floors in all, with four of it being underground, COEX offers advanced equipment and resources to accommodate everything and anything from large-scale international conferences to the latest in superior technology exhibitions. Not only is COEX a haven of high-tech digital fairs and business affairs, but it is also home to the COEX Inter-Continental Seoul Hotel and the COEX Mall. The Hotel offers the SKM Duty Free shop, which is the largest in Korea and conveniently connected to the Mall. Shops galore and restaurants aplenty, the COEX mall also indulges its customers with attractions, such as the COEX Aquarium (which features a 72m long underwater tunnel), and Deep Blue (a fondue restaurant that gives the illusion of dining at the bottom of the ocean). Located in the Mall, the Megabox Cineplex, one of the largest cinematic complexes in Seoul, attracts large crowds daily with its sixteen theaters.

Although there is quite enough to see in COEX alone, there's more to Samseong-dong than just that. Accessible by the subway (line number 2, get off at Seolleung Station), visitors can witness Korean cultural sites where ancient kings and queens resided, as well as royal tombs in Samneung Park. The entire area is approximately 198,813 sq. m. in size and costs a mere 400 won to visit, except on Mondays when it is closed. Paid parking is available, but is extremely limited, so public transportation is recommended. Another traditional hot spot to visit is Bongeunsa. A Buddhist establishment created in approximately 800 A.D., this Korean historical landmark is surely to entice and interest visitors with its beautiful architecture and rich history. The symbol for Buddhism is often mistaken as the Nazi swastika, but it is actually in reverse, so do not be alarmed.
